Pragma Systems (Paid Post)

Pragma Systems offers SSH and Telnet Servers for the Windows platform. They have been around for more than 16 years so I assume their products bring more value to the user than what you get out of the box.

They also sell Telnet and SSH clients for both stationary and handheld Windows clients

The Pragma Systems Telnet serve includes a session manager for server side management of Telnet sessions.

Free chat service (Paid Post)

Friendstation is a web site offering free live chat, free dating and free phone chat within the USA.

Friendstation is still in Beta but is working hard to become the default site for social encounters.

The free services seem to also include blogs and personals. I also found a photo rating function that I don’t know the value of. It might be useful when Friendstation has matured a little bit and has gotten a steady user base.

Virtual Private Server Hosting (Paid Post)

As part of my previous quest to find a new web host I looked at hosts offering Virtual Private Servers. So when I got the opportunity to write about NetworkSolutions Virtual Private Server Hosting it was a perfect match.

A Virtual Private Server looks like a real server when all access you have to it is through the internet. It is actually a program running on a real server that enables it to look like several servers to the outside. This is a perfect way to utilize server hardware since the average CPU load on a server is well below 10%.

For you as a customer a Virtual Private Server is a cost effective way to have your own server on the internet. You can have any server software you like running on it. But you don’t have to lease or buy the necessary hardware to handle your internet server needs.

NetworkSolutions offer some support but since they are not responsible for the software that runs in the virtual server they can not support all of it. Virtual Private Servers are aimed at the people that has the knowledge to administer a server of their own. The operation system offered is Feodora Core 6. I think there should be more choices of operating systems since the hosting company don’t have to support it anyway. Maybe NetworkSolutions can handle a bit more support if they standardize on Feodora Core.

All in all it looks like NetworkSolutions has a godd offer if you are looking for Private Virtual Server hosting and don’t mind running Feodora Core on your server.

BadCreditOffers.com (Paid Post)

BadCreditOffers.com is a site that can help US citizen that has ended up in the bad credit trap.

They have en extensive set of matrices to compare different solutions both for getting new credits and getting rid of the old ones.

Personally I would not recommend any one to solve their credit problems with more loads, but there are most certainly situations when that is the only way. I like the fact that BadCreditOffers.com offers information about credit scoring and services for credit repair and credit counseling.

Portable DVD Player (Paid Post)

DigitalFramez is a US based company who are currently promoting a portable 10 inch DVD player.
The player can handle all major video formats, including DIVX. It comes with rechargeable batteries that has a promised work time of four hours and cabling to let the car power it.

It also comes with a remote control. I am not sure I would need that for this kind of device, but I guess it could come in handy if it is connected to an ordinary TV set.

I couldn’t find any information about the company on their web site. I assume it is US based because the customer testimonials seemed to come from US citizens.

I have been thinking of getting a portable DVD player for my car to replace the fixed screen I had hooked up to a Playstation. The form factor of this device makes maximum use of it’s size since it is only the screen, not the clam shell design as most of the earlier versions of portable DVD players had.

masterseek (Paid Post)

This is probably the last paid post here for a while.

Masterseek is a recently started searchable directory of business organizations around the world.

Since masterseek takes submissions for free right now it is a perfect opportunity for small organizations trying to start up on a small budget.

Submissions may include a free text description so that potential customers can find you by your unique key words.

PayPerPost (Paid Post)

As you have seen I have done some paid posts on this blog. I really hope I can counter balance those posts with more ‘real’ posts because it hurts me to see to many paid posts on the first page. To, potentionally, make that problem worse I recently joined PayPerPost.

PayPerPost is one of several companies offering money to bloggers for writing blog posts and helping advertisers with their blog marketing. As far as I can tell they pay a little bit more than those of their competitors I have joined before. That will hopefully keep me from writing more than one or two paid post per month. We’re not really talking about a lot of money so the risk of me getting greedy and making every second post a paid one is not so big. My goal is to move to another host and have all my web activities be self financed. Any money left after paying the web host and domain registrars will probably go into marketing jsiPodFetch, my podcast downloader.

When writing for PayPerPost not all opportunities require the blogger to disclose the article as a paid post. This is such a post, but I will always disclose a paid post in the title. If there are opportunities that require the blogger to NOT disclose it as a paid post I will not take it.

If I were required to disclose this as a paid post it would look like this:

Home improvement (Paid Post)

Anglian is a company in the UK specializing in home improvements that has been around since 1966.

As of this writing (September 19 2007) they offer discounts of up to Ł800 for internet orders.

Anglian offers driveways“>driveways

Anglian has a wide selection of conservatories. The perfect solution for that extra room so many of us wants to have. Their conservatories comes with a 10 year guarantee that is transferable to new home owners if you decide to sell your home withing the guarantee period.

According to Anglias web page they are the only conservatory producer certified by the BBA. (I, living in Sweden, don’t have clue who the BBA is, but if you’re living in the UK I guess you know.)

To be honest I found their web pages quite ugly, but it seems all information the speculator for home improvement in the UK would need.

You can call them (free) for quotes or other inquiries at 0800 500 600 or go to their web page and order a brochure or DVD with more information.

Paid Post: Coke Zero

Coke zero is introducing their new home page where you can create movies from old black and white clips. In addition to cutting and pasting the visuals you can write your own dialog for your movies.

When done, all movies will enter a competition to get the highest rank.

eCommerce for my shareware (paid post)

I haven’t set up the online store I will need for my shareware application yet, but there is a donation button on jsisoft.com for supporting logview4net, my open sourced log viewer.

The main company in the ecommerce software space is DigitalRiver. They have bought a lot of shopping cart software and keep running them under their old names. It was quite refreshing when I heard about Ashop Commerce, a company that is not under the DigitalRiver umbrella (yet).

The main advantage I found with Ashop is that they do not charge any transactional fees. I sent them a support request wondering about fees for credit card payments. Even though I sent the question way out of business hours I got a quick reply. It seems handling credit cards requires a merchant account that probably will include transactional fees.

Ashop has functionality for managing affiliate programs. A feature I find very interesting a a marketing opportunity for my own software.

All in all I find Asoft a compelling alternative to roll my own store using PayPal for payments.
